Advantages and Disadvantages of Globe Valves, Plus Installation Tips
2017-06-22
Globe valves have the following advantages:
1. Simple in structure, making it relatively easy to manufacture and maintain.
2. Short working stroke and quick opening/closing time.
3. Excellent sealing performance, with low friction between sealing surfaces and a long service life.
The disadvantages of a globe valve are as follows:
1. High fluid resistance results in greater force required for both opening and closing.
2. Not suitable for media containing particles, with high viscosity, or prone to coking.
3. Poorer regulation performance.
Valves are classified by the position of the valve stem thread into external-thread types and internal-thread types. Based on the flow direction of the medium, they can be further divided into straight-through, straight-flow, and angle types. Additionally, valves can be categorized by their sealing mechanism into those with gland packing seals and those featuring bellows seals.
The following points should be noted when installing and maintaining a globe valve:
1. Globe valves operated by handwheels or handles can be installed at any position along the pipeline.
2. Handwheels, handles, and manual operating mechanisms must not be used for lifting purposes.
3. The flow direction of the medium should align with the arrow indicated on the valve body.
